Types of Floor Marking Tape
Not all floor tape is created equal. The type you need depends on your environment.
◉ Vinyl Tape: The most common and versatile type. Good for general use on smooth, indoor floors. It's durable, affordable, and comes in many colors and widths.
◉ PVC Tape: Heavier-duty than vinyl. Excellent for high-traffic areas and environments where it will be exposed to chemicals, oils, and heavy forklift traffic.
◉ Floor Paint / Epoxy: Not a tape, but a permanent alternative. Extremely durable but requires more preparation, drying time, and is difficult to change.
◉ Magnetic Tape: Used for creating temporary lines on metal floors or surfaces, easily repositioned.
◉ Anti-Slip / Grit Tape: Has an abrasive surface for added traction in wet or slippery areas.
Best Practices for Application
For floor tape to be effective and last, proper application is crucial:
1.Surface Preparation: The floor must be clean, dry, and free of dust, oil, and wax. A thorough sweep and mopping are essential.
2.Plan Your Layout: Use a measuring tape and chalk line to map out where the tape will go before you start applying it.
3.Use a Squeegee: After applying the tape, use a plastic squeegee to press it down firmly. This removes air bubbles and ensures maximum adhesion.
4.Consider Foot Traffic: Allow at least 24 hours for the adhesive to fully bond before allowing heavy traffic, especially forklifts, to drive over it.
