How does glow-in-the-dark tape work?
The working principle of glow-in-the-dark tape is based on the photoluminescence effect, and its core lies in the internal light storage luminescent material (mainly rare earth aluminate or silicate fluorescent powder). This material absorbs and stores external light energy, slowly releasing visible light in dark environments to achieve self luminous effects.

Absorption energy storage
The luminescent layer in the glow-in-the-dark tape contains long-lasting phosphorescent powder (such as rare earth activated strontium aluminate or silicate). When exposed to natural light, light, or ultraviolet light, the electrons of these powders transition from the ground state to the excited state and store light energy in the form of lattice defects.
Glowing in the dark
After the illumination stops, excited state electrons slowly return to the ground state while releasing energy in the form of visible light. This process can last for 8-12 hours or more, and the emitted color is mostly green or blue-green light (peak wavelength of about 520nm), matching the sensitive range of human dark vision.
