What is the difference between acrylic double-sided tape
and foam double-sided tape?

Acrylic Foam Double Side Tape
There are significant differences between acrylic double-sided tape and foam double-sided tape in terms of substrate, performance, and application scenarios. The following is a specific comparison:

1. Substrate and Structure

Acrylic double-sided adhesive: made of fully acrylic material as the substrate, covered with release film or release paper, with a pure acrylic adhesive layer and no foam structure.
Foam double-sided tape: The substrate is foam (such as PE, EVA, PU or acrylic foam), and both sides are coated with adhesive (acrylic, hot melt adhesive, etc.), with a porous cushioning structure.

2. Performance characteristics

Characteristics Acrylic double-sided tape foam double-sided tape
Adhesive force Super strong viscosity, suitable for high surface energy materials Strong adhesion, but weaker than acrylic adhesive
Buffering capacity No buffering function Excellent shock absorption and cushioning performance (especially EVA/PU foam)
Temperature resistance -40 ℃~150 ℃ (can withstand higher temperatures in the short term) -20 ℃~120 ℃ (PE/PU foam)
Waterproof/weather resistance Waterproof, airtight, UV resistant Waterproof, but some substrates have poor weather resistance
Applicable surface Smooth surfaces such as glass, metal, plastic, etc Curved and irregular surfaces (such as car trim)

3. Application scenarios

Acrylic Foam Double Side Tape

Acrylic double-sided tape:
Automotive industry: car emblem, anti scratch strip, sealing strip;
Electronic devices: LCD panels, metal frame bonding;
Architecture: Glass curtain wall, fixed with aluminum panels.
Foam double-sided tape:
Electronic products: shock absorbers for mobile phones, mechanical panels;
Home: hooks, fixed toys;
Car: Decorative strips, label pasting (need to buffer the scene).

4. Other differences

Thickness selection: Acrylic tape is usually thinner (0.1-1mm), while foam tape can reach up to 50mm.
Color: Acrylic adhesive is mostly transparent/semi transparent, while foam adhesive comes in white, black, gray, etc.
Summary: Acrylic adhesive is more suitable for high-strength and weather resistant bonding, while foam adhesive focuses on cushioning and surface adaptation.
